Court Street, Twynyrodyn

Below is a marvellous aerial photograph of the Court Street area taken in 1965. Whilst a lot of the buildings shown remain, quite a number have gone. Some of the more important buildings have been labelled (many thanks to Christine & Kenneth Brewer, Keith Lewis-Jones, Carl Llewellyn & Joan Newman for clarifying a number of details).

  1. Just above the number 4, on the corner of Court Street and Hight Street, is my grandparents fish and chip shop. Ellen ‘Nellie’ Evans (nee Beer) and David Evans (Dai Chips). They ran it from the 1930’s until my grandfathers death in 1959. It was demolished in the early ‘70’s. Next door on Court Street was Eugene Sullivan the builder. My grandmothers, grandmother (Ellen Brown- nee O’Conner b1851) also had a fish and chip shop nearby in Swan Street, and ran a lodging house in Upper Taff Street.
