70 years ago today, Lord Kemsley (James Gomer Berry) was awarded the freedom of the borough. The photograph below, which appeared in the Illustrated London News, marks the occasion.

I was one of a few pupils from Cyfarthfa Grammar School chosen to attend the freedom of the borough ceremony in the Town Hall. I think I still have the Order of Service. In hindsight it was a privilege to view this occasion.
